REGIONAL EVENT RESULTS
TEEN ANGLERS Here we go again!
The Alligator Lake Chain is tough, that’s a fact. But the Central Florida Teen Anglers like a challenge, (just ask commissioner Bill Lane), So they jumped at the chance to have a rather unusual tournament out of Trout Lake. You see this was a team event, the volunteer, like a teen with a boat, or adult volunteer, could weigh 2 bass, while their teammate, teen angler had to weigh 3 bass, the heaviest 5 bass limit won the tournament. Safe light came at 6:30 AM on Sunday the 16th, and everyone scattered, I think we had teams fishing every lake in the 6 lake chain. The lake chain continues to decline from a lack of oversight. The homeowners association that once fought for the chain is no more, and there is no interest from the county. But there are a few bass left to be caught, but it sure pales compared to the early 80’s, when bass beds were prevalent in March/ April, and October/ November. There were none to be seen this past spring; perhaps fall will bring better news. But that didn’t stop the teens from finding fish, and find they did, every teen weighed fish. I think that’s a 1st for a tournament on the chain. The team of Adam Karbiener and Ron Lane, (no relation to Bill, this one cares), outfished all comers and managed a 1st place finish with a 5 bass limit. The only limit to be brought to the scales. Also noteworthy was the big bass for the day caught by the team of Willis and Gable, two Teen Anglers that fished hard for big fish and got it.
The next tournament for the Teen Anglers is set for October 23rd out of the Lake Toho Resort, always friends of the Teen Anglers. Our tournament was sponsored by Minn-Kota, Humminbird, Sufix, Shakespeare, Mustad, Mann’s baits, and Bitter’s bait and tackle. Thanks go out to them all, as well as the adult volunteers that show up every month to get these teens on the water, they include Ron Lane, Butch Fannin, Bob Powell, and Barre Baggett. If you are a teen that fishes and you want to get in on the fun go to www.teenanglers.org for more information.
