NATIONAL TEEN ANGLERS

CONGRATULATIONS SAVANNAH!

On Saturday -- August 11th the new fishing team -- Team Pursuit made their mark again on the kingfish tournament circuit.  Capt. Rob Ward with team members Jay Sizemore, Eric Hess, Bruce Thompson, Kevin Allen and newest team member 7 year old Savannah Ward fished their way to a 3rd place finish in the Junior Angler Division and also 10th place in the general tournament of the New Smyrna Kingfish Classic.  This tournament benefited the local Rotary Club and Hospice of New Smyrna Beach and was the second tournament for this new team.

Team Pursuit left the Ft. Pierce Inlet in their new 34 foot center console with twin 350 V-8 Yamaha's in search of a big fish and little did they know that Savannah would be the one to land the fish for the team.  Savannah was fighting the fish as the crew cleared the other rods.  Her dad -- Capt. Rob kept telling her when she got tired to hand the rod off the Kevin.  She kept telling her dad that she was not sharing this fish and she didn't.  After a 20 minute fight she got the fish along side the boat where her dad gaffed it.  Much to the amazement of the crew and to Savannah she had landed a 32.94 pound kingfish.  The fish was caught on a blue runner in 55 feet of water off of Wabasso.  The crew did land several other fish during the day but none quite as big as Savannah's.

As the crew made their way to the Riverside Park in New Smyrna Beach for the weigh in where we were all waiting by the scales to see what everyone's fish weighed.  Savannah and her dad wowed the crowd as they weighed in Savannah's fish.  The crowd cheered as they announced the weight of 32.94 pounds.  This is the biggest fish she has ever caught and she was very happy to pose for pictures with her fish.

At the awards ceremony Savannah received a check for $200.00 for her 3rd place finish in the Junior Angler Division.  Team Pursuit received at check for $693.00 for their 10th place finish in the General Division.  The pay out's were base on the number of entries in the tournament which was 127 boats and this was a S.K.A. sanctioned event.

Savannah is a member of the local chapter of Junior Teen Anglers and fished in all of the events they had last year.  She is eagerly awaiting the first from shore tournament of the 2007 - 2008 season which will be held on Sarurday -- August 25th at Harbour Pointe Park in Ft. Pierce.  For more info on Junior Teen Anglers just go to the website at www.teenanglers.org
